In line with our expansion and ongoing commitment to excellence, we are currently seeking a Production and Quality Control Manager to join our team. This key position will be responsible for overseeing the production processes and ensuring the highest standards of quality control are maintained in all our products.

Duties and Responsibilities of Production and Quality Control Manager

Oversee Production Operations

  • Manage Production Schedules: Develop and implement daily, weekly, and monthly production plans to ensure timely and efficient processing of agricultural products.
  • Optimize Production Efficiency: Continuously monitor production lines to identify inefficiencies, recommend improvements, and implement solutions to enhance productivity and reduce downtime.
  • Monitor Raw Material Supply: Coordinate with suppliers and procurement teams to ensure a consistent supply of quality raw materials required for production.
  • Ensure Compliance with Health and Safety Standards: Enforce safety protocols and practices to minimize workplace hazards and ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee the management of finished products and raw materials to ensure accurate stock levels and avoid overproduction or shortages.

Ensure Quality Control Standards

  • Implement Quality Control Procedures: Develop, implement, and monitor effective quality control systems to ensure that all finished products meet required standards and specifications.
  • Quality Testing: Conduct regular inspections and tests on both raw materials and finished products to ensure they comply with food safety regulations, industry standards, and customer requirements.
  • Monitor Production Processes: Evaluate all stages of production, from raw material processing to packaging, to ensure consistent quality and adherence to quality assurance guidelines.
  • Track Defects and Variances: Identify product defects or process deviations, investigate root causes, and work with production teams to implement corrective actions.

Food Safety Management

  • Compliance with Food Safety Regulations: Ensure all production processes adhere to local and national food safety laws and certifications (e.g., Rwanda Bureau of Standards (RBS) and Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority (RFDA)
  • Internal Audits: Conduct regular internal audits to evaluate the effectiveness of the food safety management system and identify areas for improvement.

Lead and Supervise Teams

  • Staff Management and Development: Lead a team of production workers and quality control staff. Provide coaching, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities to ensure high levels of team performance.
  • Workforce Scheduling: Create and manage work schedules to ensure adequate staffing levels during peak production periods while ensuring optimal work-life balance for employees.
  • Foster a Collaborative Environment: Promote a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration within the production and quality control departments.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Record-Keeping and Documentation: Maintain detailed and accurate records of production activities, quality control tests, food safety audits, and any corrective actions taken.
  • Prepare Reports: Provide regular reports to management on production efficiency, product quality, food safety compliance, and any issues related to production.

Customer and Regulatory Compliance

  • Customer Requirements: Work closely with the sales and customer service teams to ensure that customer quality expectations are met and that products are delivered on time,
  • Regulatory Liaison: Liaise with regulatory bodies and third-party auditors to ensure the company remains compliant with all food safety regulations, certifications, and industry standards.

Skills and Qualifications Required

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience in a similar role, ideally within agro-processing or food manufacturing,
  • Knowledge of Food Safety Standards: Strong knowledge of food safety laws and regulations, including but not limited to RBS standards, and other relevant local or international certifications.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to manage and develop teams, drive continuous improvement, and work cross-functionally within the organization,
  • Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to analyze production data and identify trends or issues,
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal English communication skills to ensure effective collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders,
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with production management software, quality control tools, and food safety management systems,
  • Category A driving license is required and having both with category B is an added value;
