Nominations are invited for the Hillman Prize for Journalism 2025. Since 1950, the Sidney Hillman Foundation has honored journalists, writers and public figures that pursue investigative journalism and public policy in service of the common good. Recipients exemplify reportorial excellence, storytelling skill, and social justice impact.

Sidney Hillman was the founding president of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, a predecessor union of Workers United, SEIU. Sidney Hillman, an architect of the New Deal, fought to build a vibrant union movement extending beyond the shop floor to all aspects of working people’s lives.

Categories

2025 Categories are as follows:
  • Book (nonfiction)
  • Newspaper Journalism (story, series or multimedia; print or online)
  • Magazine Journalism (longform; print or online)
  • Broadcast Journalism (television, radio or podcast; at least 20 minutes in total package length)
  • Opinion & Analysis Journalism (commentary and analysis in any medium)

Prize

  • Hillman Prize winners will be awarded a $5,000 honorarium and a certificate at the annual ceremony to be held in New York City on Tuesday May 6, 2025.

Eligibility

  • Open to journalists globally, although work must have been widely accessible to a U.S. audience.
  • Stories may be on any topic but they prioritize entries with U.S impact.
  • You may nominate your own work or someone else’s. You may apply on your own or be entered by your outlet/organization.
  • There is no limit to the number of entries one outlet may make. There is no fee to enter.
