East Africa Exchange Ltd, (EAX) is regional commodity exchange offering commodity trade services in Rwanda and East Africa Community (EAC) common markets (173 million consumers) in key staples food crops such as Maize, Beans and Soya. EAX deals with high quality products meeting the requirement of EAC standards. Key value proposition is guaranteed quantity and quality of farmers’ grains, reliability of trade and settlement services and high level of risk mitigation. The company was created in 2013 to further strengthen EAC regional integration by developing a common and coherent financial sector in agriculture, energy and mining. EAX links deprived rural farmers to financial markets. It offers financial product development to its members and facilitates trades regionally and worldwide.

Title: Accountant

Reports to: Head of Finance

Based at: Kigali

Purpose: Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Financial Accountant will provide assistance in the Finance Department in Preparation of full set of Financial statements in accordance with IFRS and Generally Accepted Accounting Standards (GAAP).

Accountant Duties and Responsibilities

  • Preparation of monthly set of financial statements (Statement of Comprehensive Income, Statement of Financial position, Statement of shareholder’s equity and Statement of Cash flows).
  • Preparation of Quarterly set of financial statements (Statement of Comprehensive Income, Statement of Financial position, Statement of shareholder’s equity and Statement of Cash flows).
  • Preparation of Annual set of financial statements (Statement of Comprehensive Income, Statement of Financial position, Statement of shareholder’s equity and Statement of Cash flows).
  • Schedule of annual revenue per activity.
  • Reconcile aging (Payable and Receivable) to the list of creditors and debtors.
  • Keep the company’s Fixed Asset Registrar updated and their movement schedule reconciled to the GL.
  • Inventory management and movement Schedule.
  • Ensure that those adequate financial controls are in place to maintain appropriate and proper accountability of expenditures.
  • Ensuring that all financial transactions are properly authorized, recorded, have adequate supporting documentation.
  • Ensure safe keeping of financial documents (invoices and their supporting documents)
  • Ensure a proper filing system of all effected payments and their supporting documents.
  • Review and advise internal controls to the management.
  • Participate in stock take and keep copies of approved stock count sheet.
  • Perform any other related tasks that may be assigned to him/her by the immediate supervisor.

Education;

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Finance/or Accounting
  • CPA/ACCA Intermediate level or Advanced level.
  • 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
